Jay (of Retro Artists) — an animation artist has embarked on his “mission to bring excitement back into Jigsaw Puzzling “. He says,
“My father, a Cybersecurity specialist, retired at 50 last year, due to mental health problems. During lock-downs, he returned to his childhood yearnings for Jigsaw Puzzles, but was severely disappointed as all he could find were images of quaint cottages, drab buildings and landscapes, various floral themes, and the occasional slightly amusing animated puzzle. “
Like the rest of us, his father was bored to tears, as he endured month-after-month of housebound lock-downs. But still couldn’t bring himself to complete any of the “lifeless” puzzles family & friends had bought for him. “They bored him as much as the lock-downs did “, chuckles Jay.
“Where have they all gone! In my day we had James Bond puzzles, Star trek puzzles, Six million dollar man, Bionic Woman- puzzles! Every hit TV show and film had their puzzles! “ complained his father.

Having looked into the benefits of Jigsaw puzzles upon mental health — Jay felt he needed to help. For he had seen first hand the fall-out from anxiety & mental health issues with not only his father but by the tragic suicide of a close friend only months prior. And anxiety was becoming more and more widespread during the pandemic, our upcoming puzzle.
Jay found in the 1970s, Jigsaw Puzzles had much broader appeal than we see today. He quickly found out why.
His father was right.
Jigsaw puzzles in the 1970s were amazingly cool- with images of dynamic action scenes from every popular TV character you could think of — Dr. Who, Doc Savage, The Lone Ranger, Starsky & Hutch, Space 1999; the list went on and on. Not only that, but the images had a whole series of fantastically dynamic scenes of action in full flow. A far cry from gentle landscapes and picturesque village scenes we see today.
“For puzzles to make a meaningful comeback- they had to have broader appeal.”
Jay gradually set to work, he recruited the very best illustrators/artist he could hire; and let older ones lead the way.
“After 8 long months, we have developed an amazing range of high quality 1000 and 500 piece jigsaw puzzles, with beautiful artworks inspired by some of the greatest movies ever made packed with nostalgia and excitement.
And we made them here, in England, something I’m very proud of. We re-created famous movie scenes from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. My dad loves them, so I’m pretty sure every puzzler will find that excitement that puzzles have lacked for nearly 40 years. And that more people would take them up. Hopefully, it will have a meaningful effect on the mental health pandemic, which society still doesn’t talk about, You can also find more details on our Pre-launch website. ”
Jay says, he wants to give back to his father's generation- “just a tiny reminder of their pre-digital childhoods, they cherish and so dearly miss.” — So Retro Artists was born to bring back the nostalgia and fulfillment of your fondest memories of Childhood — by bringing the excitement and thrill back to Puzzling, absent since the 1970s.
“But in all honesty; its really to help people like my father and my dear friend that I lost”
